The figure, dressed in all-black garments and carrying something reminiscent of a scythe, could be seen hurrying across a doorway from right to left.
The sighting quickly went viral, with ‘Grim Reaper at Westminster Abbey’ trending on social media. However, it is likely that the figure was simply a robed participant of the proceedings who happened to be hidden in shadow.

The coincidence of the figure’s appearance and a particularly appropriate piece of music from the orchestra added to the amusing nature of the sighting.
