The dark sky over Missouri and Oklahoma was suddenly illuminated by an incredible fireball, which luckily was caught on camera by one lucky man’s doorbell!
Gregg Ewing’s doorbell camera was able to capture the moment when a brilliant fireball passed over Joplin, Missouri at 3:38 a.m Friday morning. According to reports from the American Meteor Society, people across northeast Oklahoma and southwest Missouri also observed this illuminating sight!
The National Weather Service sent out a tweet confirming the sighting of a meteor detected using the Geostationary Lightning Mapper.
We have have received multiple reports this morning, including videos, of a meteor that occurred over northeast Oklahoma this morning. This was detected by the Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) shown as a blue dot over Wagoner county. #meteor #GLM pic.twitter.com/I8sCseNB76

According to the American Meteor Society, over 70 sightings of the blazing fireball were reported.
