The homeowners, the Kop family, initially thought it was a thrown rock until they realized its extraterrestrial origin.
The impact damaged the bedroom floor before bouncing off the ceiling and coming to rest on the floor.
Fortunately, nobody was home when it happened. Suzy Kop, one of the homeowners, found the warm object in the debris.
Derrick Pitts, the chief astronomer at the Franklin Institute, believes the meteorite could be billions of years old, originating from the early days of the solar system.
It is rare for a meteorite to strike a house and be recoverable.
Emergency responders checked the family for any potential radioactivity or residue, but they were cleared of any harm.
The incident is being investigated and may be connected to the Eta Aquariids meteor shower.
The Kop family considers themselves fortunate that no one was hurt and regards the event as a unique gift from space.
