The Center for Inquiry Investigations Group (CFIIG), a Los Angeles-based skepticism organization, has offered a prize of $500,000 to anyone who can demonstrate paranormal abilities under scientific testing conditions.
The CFIIG Paranormal Challenge aims to put claims of psychic powers, supernatural phenomena, and other extraordinary abilities to the test of science. Applicants who believe they have genuine paranormal talents will be required to perform them repeatedly, on demand, under protocols designed by CFIIG to prevent trickery.
Initial demonstrations will be informal, but any promising applicants will then undergo formal scrutiny by CFIIG’s test administrators. The organization states that tests can take place either remotely, online, or in-person with CFIIG members in the Los Angeles area.
In addition to the grand prize for a successful demonstration, the group is also offering referral fees of $5,000 to anyone who puts them in contact with an applicant who goes on to pass the formal test.
The CFIIG Paranormal Challenge is the latest in a line of skepticism-sponsored rewards aimed at promoting critical thinking. It joins the James Randi Educational Foundation’s terminated $1 million challenge and other efforts to investigate fantastic claims under controlled conditions. CFIIG aims to spread skepticism and highlight the importance of evidence.
