Vlogger Apologizes and Settles Lawsuit After Falsely Portraying House as Haunted.
In a recent development, a popular vlogger with the surname Lu, who boasted over 2.5 million followers on a prominent short video-sharing platform, has issued a formal apology and settled a lawsuit with the victim, surnamed Zhou. This reconciliation comes after Lu’s actions caused considerable distress to Zhou, who had filed a lawsuit against him in June.
The incident began when Lu trespassed into Zhou’s residence without permission and proceeded to create a video that falsely depicted the house as haunted. The video rapidly gained traction, amassing millions of views and sparking a frenzy across various social media platforms.
Deeply affected by the video, Zhou attempted to contact Lu and requested its removal. However, Lu not only refused but also blocked her from further communication. As a result, Zhou took legal action by filing a lawsuit against Lu at the People’s Court of Zhenyuan County in Guizhou Province.
In a significant ruling, the court determined that Lu’s video constituted a form of cyber-violence, holding him accountable for the emotional distress it caused Zhou. Initially, Lu denied any wrongdoing, but he eventually acknowledged the harm inflicted upon Zhou and took the initiative to compose a formal apology letter.
To make amends, Lu also offered a settlement of 3,000 yuan to compensate Zhou for the distress she endured. Zhou graciously accepted the apology and the financial settlement, bringing the matter to a close.
